Green tips to help you lower your energy usage.
o As your existing bulbs wear out, replace them with energy saving light bulbs. And always turn lights off when you leave the room.
o Cavity wall insulation can help you save up to £160 per year on your heating bills. Insulate your loft with sheep’s wool, or recycled materials instead of using fibre glass.
o Fit discreet radiator foil sheets to the backs of your radiators, they reflect heat into your room so you don’t waste money heating up the wall! And consider fitting individual thermostats to each one.
o If you have an open chimney, when it’s not in use, try using a Chimney balloon to prevent the warm air from your room escaping and keep cold drafts out.
o Double glaze or secondary glaze your windows .
o Fit window , door and Draught excluders seals to keep your heat in.
o Cover hot water tanks to prevent heat loss.
o Put lids on your pans when cooking, the pans heat up quicker and you use less energy.
o Use“Solar lighting”:http://www.eco-project.co.uk/Lighting-House-Home/b/2041328031?ie=UTF8&title=Lighting outside.
o When making a cup of tea, only boil the amount of water you need. Boiling a full kettle is a waste of electricity.
o NEVER put hot food into a cold fridge. This makes the fridge work extra hard to cool down again using more power.
o Only use the washing machine when you have a full load. or try this eco washing machine!
